B-IT Professor von zur Gathen's Farewell Lecture

Professor von zur Gathen will give his farewell lecture on 1st February 2016 at 18:00 hours in B-IT lecture hall. The event will be hosted by B-IT director Professor Stefan Wrobel.

Professor von zur Gathen is a highly successful researcher and scientist who shaped his scientific area in general and at B-IT and in Bonn in particular. He held a chair in cryptography at B-IT and was a member of Fachgruppe Informatik at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bonn. He substantially contributed to the scientific reputation of Computer Science in the Bonn area. Besides his research contributions in many scientific journals, he is also the author of two very successful scientific books about Computeralgebra and Cryptography.

Professor von zur Gathen will remain scientifically active as a Professor Emeritus at B-IT. In his lecture, entitled: "Back to the future", he will present the essence of his scientific work, but will also speak about the future of his research area.

Herr Prof. Dr. Joachim von zur Gathen wird seine festliche Abschiedsvorlesung am 1. Februar 2016 um 18.00 Uhr im Hörsaal des B-IT, Endenicher Allee 19A, 53115 Bonn, halten. Die Veranstaltung wird von BIT Direktor Prof. Stefan Wrobel moderiert.

Professor von zur Gathen hat mit seiner äußerst erfolgreichen Tätigkeit das B-IT und die Informatik in Bonn entscheidend mitgeprägt. Als Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Kryptographie/Computer Security am B-IT und Mitglied der Fachgruppe Informatik der Universität Bonn hat er entscheidend zur wissenschaftlichen Reputation und internationalen Sichtbarkeit unseres Faches in Bonn beigetragen. Neben vielfältigen wissenschaftlichen Fachbeiträgen ist Herr von zur Gathen auch Autor äußerst erfolgreicher Bücher zu Computeralgebra und Kryptographie und wird auch nach seiner Verabschiedung weiter in Bonn wissenschaftlich aktiv bleiben. Wir freuen uns deshalb auf eine Abschiedsvorlesung, die nicht nur die Essenz seines Schaffens der letzten Jahre beleuchten wird, sondern sicher auch spannende Ausblicke auf die Zukunft geben wird. Der Titel seines Vortrags lautet: "Back to the future!"
