Pairing-based cryptography

Abstract

In this series of lectures, we will discuss selected topics in pairing-based cryptography. This subject has seen massive growth since its inception in 2000, and we will be necessarily selective (and subjective) in selecting which topics to cover. We will start by introducing some basic concepts from elliptic curve cryptography, then provide a high-level introduction to pairings. We will then see how pairings have been used to construct public key cryptosystems of various kinds, including ID-based encryption schemes, short signatures, aggregate signatures, public key encryption and signature schemes that are secure in the standard model, certificateless cryptosystems, and possibly more (if time allows). Throughout our focus will be on achieving novel cryptographic functionality in an efficient and secure manner.
